NEW ZEALAND -- STATUS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
The political and commercial environment in New Zealand works totally at odds with the huge potential that wind energy has in the country. Wind energy developments are mainly only economic for Class 1 wind resource areas where installed capacity is more than 50MW.
The political environment , represented by both the Labour Party and the National Party, is also not supportive of feed in tariffs such that it is extremely difficult to develop distributed generation and/or industrial size wind energy projects.
